Things to do in Montauk: Biking and Ditch Plains

After Lunch and Belly’s, we headed to the Montauk Bike Shop to rent bikes and head to Montauk Point. We figured we’d take a leisurely bike ride through the town and then bike to the lighthouse at the very end of the island (how difficult is that, right?) Well, it wouldn’t be difficult if you’re in good shape, but apparently Josh and I are in really bad shape because we were struggling the entire bike ride. Josh and I would sing to each other to try to make the bike ride more bearable, but we would eventually end up walking up hills because it was way too difficult. Here are some pictures from our bike ride:

When we got to the sign for Montauk Point’s State Park, we spent half an hour trying to take jumping pictures. Probably not a good idea if we were already out of breath from biking:

As you can see, I am a huge fan of jumping in pictures:

We didn’t go into the lighthouse because the weather was really iffy (it would be nice and sunny for 10 minutes and then really cold and foggy for the next 20). We walked around the lighthouse and managed to take some pictures:

And finally, the sun came back:

After returning our bikes to the Montauk Bike Shop, we drove to Ditch Plains to play in the water (I have never been so happy to see a rental car. Seriously, we plopped into the car and told each other how happy we were that we didn’t have to pedal a bike for the rest of our vacation). Josh did a really good job of jumping in the water:

The water was freezing cold, but a lot of people were surfing and in the water (I realize that there aren’t any people in this picture…I just wanted to show you a picture of the water!):

And me and Josh enjoying the late afternoon sun:

After hanging out at the beach (and actually passing out in the shade because we were so tired, we went to the hotel, washed up, and headed to dinner. More on that tomorrow!

Just to point out: your brother rode his bike to that lighthouse earlier this Spring from Manhattan. In one day. 150 miles.
