Last weekend, I had a little bout of insomnia and ended up officially getting up at 4AM on Saturday morning. Since I was up so early, I thought the best thing for me to do was catch up on television (there are too many good shows this season, including: The New Normal, The Mindy Project, Ben and Kate, starting to watch The New Girl, and getting back to Modern Family, The Office, Parks and Recreation and way too many reality shows) After I watched way too much television, I got up and walked to the flower district on 28th between 6th and 7th. I read an article about it in the NYTimes (see the article here) and have always wanted to go but I’m never up in time to actually walk over there.
The flowers are everywhere – there are lots of vans on the street doing pickups for flower shops and many of the flowers are actually pre-arranged (for weddings, I’m guessing since there were multiples of the same arrangement). I wanted to see the different types of flowers were in season to bring home and brighten up the apartment but to also learn more about flowers since we’re still trying to pick our flowers for the wedding! The street:
One guy was putting together the arrangements on the street:
Every shop had a different specialty – this place had a lot of orchids inside:
The orchids in the flower district are much cheaper than anything you’d buy in the stores (these orchids were about $20 per stem):
One of the larger stores also had the containers for flowers – these are mostly used for weddings and you can buy them by the lot (most lots have 6):
The cold fridge where they stored flowers:
More flowers:
And on my way home with 30 long-stemmed roses (for $10!), I ran into this beautiful white cat guarding his store:
After walking by the flower district, it’s so difficult to justify buying flowers online! The roses are really beautiful and there were enough to have 15 in the bedroom and the rest in our living room!

Two weeks ago, Ken and I met up right after work and went to Korea town for dinner. I wanted to try something new (still mourning the loss of my favorite place, BCD Tofu House) so we opted to try Arirang. Arirang is known for their handmade noodles and soups – New York was really cold that week so it totally made sense to fill up on soup and kimchi!
The restaurants is on the second floor of an office building; I’ve walked past it so many times but have never gone in! The wait was only 15 minutes and the restaurant only had Korean people (and lots of old people were there, too). We started with the seafood pajeon:
Everyone talks about how great their pajeon pancake is but I wasn’t super impressed. It was a little soggy…but it had a lot of seafood (more than people usually put in their pancakes!) We also had some kimchi and radishes:
I ordered the Chicken Kar-jeabe with handmade long-noodle & dough flakes – chicken, potato, onion, green onion:
And Ken ordered the Kim-Chi Seafood with handmade long-noodle – kimchi, cuttlefish, clam, shrimp, green onion, mixed seafoods:
Both broths were super thick because of the potatoes and all of the handmade noodles – a little too thick (and slightly gloppy/gluey). The chicken was really tender, but they didn’t add enough and there were only a few chunks in the entire large bowl of soup. Ken’s soup had so many different types of seafood that it was a treasure hunt to find everything, but it was really good and very spicy. A good restaurant to add to our repertoire of K-town spots – it doesn’t officially hit the spot for soup, but it’s pretty legit.
You’ve probably been wondering when I’m going to update again – it’s been almost two weeks since my last post but Ken and I have been so busy with traveling, wedding planning and work that I have been seriously neglecting my blog! An update – we have booked the music for the reception and the band for the actual wedding. Now we are trying to find the videographer, photographer and photobooth company for the wedding. Still no dress but I’m sure I will figure it out soon!
When we went to Chicago to meet with the band and to see our friends. We were also lucky enough to be there the same time our friend Kristen was celebrating her birthday! Drew, her husband, made dinner reservations at Hash House a Go Go for dinner and we met up with them for some interesting breakfast foods.
As we were walking to our seats, we saw that the servings were gigantic so Ken and I decided to share a main course and a salad instead of being super wasteful. The dishes were also super unhealthy and fatty so we decided to go all out for our entree choice. Since the salads were also really large and had lots of fried things in them, we picked the most plain one – the tomato salad (with dressing on the side) and a large Parmesan crisp.
For our main course, we ordered the chicken and waffles:
The chicken was very good; moist, good skin and excellently flavored, however, the waffles tasted more mushy like pancakes than the crispy texture I was looking for. They also do this annoying thing where they put rosemary and green onions on absolutely everything. Ken really liked the waffles and didn’t want to switch (who would want to
Peter was sitting next to me so I had the opportunity to take a shot of his plate as well, just to show you how large their portions were – he ordered the porkchops with mashed potatoes:
Their plates are gigantic and even their drinks are large – you can only order beers that are 32 ounces and their cocktails are huge, too! It was a little empty for dinner but I’m guessing it’s packed for the breakfast rush. I wasn’t a huge fan of their food but it was a fun celebration for Kristen’s birthday!

We sit for our daily commute, sit down at our desks for a good eight hours and when we get home after a tiring day, we just can’t wait to sit down.Professor Emily BanksWhat we found was that those who sat for prolonged periods of time, were more likely to die in the three years following the survey, than those who sat for shorter periods.Professor Emily BanksAnd this was actually after we had accounted for things like age, smoking and as many other factors as we could think of. In the study, those who exercised regularly, were still at an increasing risk of early death the longer they sat but being inactive only adds to the risk. cheap nfl jerseys

My Life,
Wedding
We have planned our first trip to Chicago to work on wedding-related tasks! We’re going in a few weeks and we have a list of tasks that we’d like to complete before going to Chicago. Here’s how we’ve organized the tasks:
It’s similar to what I work on at the office; planning for a set amount of time (September 7th – 28th) and ideally, having all of the tasks completed by the 28th. There’s a photo of me and a photo of Ken to separate the tasks and we move the post its every morning (or evening) after discussing what we’ve accomplished that day. It doesn’t look like a lot, but that’s just because those are the tasks we have to complete by the 28th – here’s the list of tasks that we still have to do before the wedding:
We originally tried doing this board online, but there’s something very gratifying about moving the post its from column to column!
How are you organizing your wedding? Do you have anything like this set up in your apartment?
