The Publican and Alinea

So the title of this post is a little misleading because I’m not actually posting about either restaurant…BUT!…I told my friend Cliff that I would stop procrastinating and finally post about the two dining experiences we shared while we were both in the windy city. Since I didn’t actually have time to write either post, I’ll give you a teaser – brunch at The Publican and dinner at Alinea. Cliff, I promise I’ll have the Alinea post published by Monday!

Me, Angie, Josh, and Brooke after bruch at The Publican:

It just so happened that Cliff was also in Chicago – he had his 10 year high school reunion in Champaign earlier that weekend! He drove up to Chicago to meet us up for brunch:

I think my body was really confused from my trip to Chicago; I got off my flight from Shanghai, went to dinner for my birthday, went out for drinks, then woke up at 5am the next morning to Bike the Drive. After biking Lake Shore, we went to brunch at The Publican and dinner at Alinea. And no naps in between!

Josh, Angie, and Cliff all agreed to dine with me at Alinea (which is why I switched my ticket at the last minute to extend my layover in Chicago) – I made reservations in March and we all put aside a little money each week to prepare for the epic meal. Here we are all dressed up for our big dinner:

We did the tour, so get ready for a ton of pictures on Monday; have a great weekend and stay out of the heat!

This will be the longest weekend ever, as I await the awesomeness that is to Come Monday! (As Jimmy Buffett said).

Seems like you had a great trip to Chicago. Alinea is at the top of my list for restaurants I must try! Reading this post, I was wondering if you read this article:

Achatz discusses food bloggers in general and in his restaurant.

@thedegustationasian – yes, I read that article right before I went to eat at Alinea. I agree that some people do take way too many pictures at restaurants and the food is either warm or melted by the time they’re done photographing. At Alinea, we had two photographers and if I couldn’t get the shot, I relied on my friend’s expertise. We ended up with some blurry shots, but our meal was definitely not compromised! I just went through all of the photos tonight and they look amazing AND I definitely didn’t end up eating a warm potato/warm potato ๐Ÿ™‚
