Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course
After our lunch at St. Peter’s Catch, Ken and I drove over to the Montauk golf course, Montauk Downs State Park Golf Course. It’s a public course that is one of the most beautiful courses I’ve ever played on (and it’s ranked as one of the top 10 best municipal courses in the US!) Ken and I had a really fun time golfing with two interesting guys – one was on the US Ski Team and is now looking to join a golf tour and the other is an opthamologist with three sons that live in New York (close to us, too!)
The golf course is very well maintained and their golf carts even have touchscreens so you can see how far you are from the greens (one annoying thing: if you go past certain areas and you’re not supposed to on the cart, you won’t be able to go forwards, only backwards…which is why the greens are so nice!) There were a lot of deer there, especially close to 18:
They weren’t afraid of the golf balls at all! At one point, I saw six deer in a sand trap watching us play…it was a bit startling to look up and see so many deer within 50 feet of us! It’s a fun course that Ken and I hope to play again next season (or maybe even this year if we can get out to Montauk again!)
