After a round of drinks at Fedora, Ken and I crossed the street and put our names in at Empellón Taqueria for dinner. The wait wasn’t bad for a Thursday night even though it was pretty packed – we only had to wait about 15 minutes (just enough time to finish a drink at the bar!) Ken and I were both starving so we started with some chips and spicy salsa:

The salsas all come in small containers and are $3/each – this one was just enough to satiate us while we looked at the menu. We started with an official order of queso fundido with spinach:

We each had three tortillas, way too many for an appetizer because by the time we finished our queso fundido, we were already pretty full and we hadn’t even had any of the actual tacos we ordered! Our first tacos: scallops with bacon and lettuce:

Ken’s choice – I wasn’t a fan and Ken just thought it was okay. The flavors were okay but just didn’t really have any texture, just a bunch of mush.

Our second tacos: fried fish tacos!:

Definitely awesome fish tacos – they were lightly fried and so incredibly moist and flavored just right. We both liked the fish tacos a lot.

The last taco of the night: lobster tacos:

These were a little heavy, especially since we had just eaten so much cheese and tortilla – we liked them, but I thought they were a little expensive for the amount of lobster that was in each taco. We ordered the appetizer portion for all three tacos (I think the entree portion has three tacos instead of two). I liked the vibe and food – people have said the other Empellon, in the East Village, should swap with the West Village restaurant because the price points in the East Village are more West Village-like (and the food in the East Village is more sit-down while the West Village location is quicker bar food). We will definitely return – to the West Village location and we also want to try the East Village location!
